Professor Gain Kim Appointed

2021.12.14

As of January 16th, 2022, Professor Gain Kim will join us in the Department of Information and Communication Engineering at DGIST.

Professor Gain Kim received his B.S., M.S. degrees in Electrical Engineering from the Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne (EPFL), Lausanne, Switzerland in 2013, 2015, respectively, and Ph.D. degree in Microsystems and Microelectronics from EPFL, Lausanne, Switzerland in 2018. From 2016 to 2018, he was with IBM Research Zurich Laboratory, Zurich, Switzerland, working on ADC-based wireline receiver circuit design. From 2018 to 2020, he was with Nanoscale Advanced Integrated Systems laboratory in KAIST, Daejeon, South Korea, as a postdoctoral fellow. From Nov. 2020 to Jan. 2022, he was with Samsung Research, Seoul, South Korea, as a staff engineer.

His research interests include modem circuits & systems design, modulation scheme and waveform design for next-generation ultra-high-speed wireless/wireline communication system, mixed-signal circuit design such as ADC, multi-chip AI accelerator design. Especially, he extensively conducted research on modulation techniques for energy-efficient communications through multi-drop interfaces, analysis and design of multi-tone modulation for high-speed serial link transceivers. He published 17 international papers including 12 first-authored papers to peer-reviewed international journals and conferences, including top-tier journals and conference in circuit design field such as JSSC, TCAS-I and ISSCC. In 2018, he received the IEEE CAS Pre-doctoral scholarship award, awarded by the IEEE Circuits and Systems (CAS) society, as the sole recipient of the year.
